Hunting Land Clearing & Food Plot Prep
Transform your hunting property into a deer magnet. Food plots, shooting lanes, and access trails — done right.
Hunting Property Services
Whether you're managing a 20-acre family hunting spot or a 500-acre hunting club, we help you create the habitat that holds deer. From food plot clearing to shooting lane creation, our forestry mulching equipment transforms overgrown timber into productive hunting land.
Food Plot Clearing
Clear areas from 1/4 acre to several acres for clover, soybeans, brassicas, or any food plot seed. We grind brush and small trees down to grade, leaving mulch that enriches the soil and suppresses weeds while your plot establishes.
Shooting Lanes
Cut precise shooting lanes from your stand locations. Whether you're bow hunting (narrow lanes) or rifle hunting (wider corridors), we clear exactly what you need for clean shots at your typical distances.
Access Trails
Create quiet access trails to your stands. We can cut ATV-width trails or wider paths for side-by-side access. Trails are cleared low to ground level — no stumps to navigate in the dark pre-dawn walks to your stand.
Habitat Edge Creation
Deer love edges — the transition zones between timber and openings. We create irregular edges with hinge cuts and selective clearing that maximize browse and create natural funnels that concentrate deer movement.
How We Transform Your Hunting Land
From overgrown timber to prime deer habitat
Walk the Property
We walk your land with you (or use aerial imagery) to plan food plot locations, shooting lanes, and access routes based on deer travel patterns and wind considerations.
Clear & Create
Our mulchers clear designated areas, cutting brush and small trees down to ground level. We work around mature oaks and mast trees you want to keep.
Hunt Better
Your property is transformed. Plant your food plots, hang your stands, and start seeing more deer in range. Many hunters see immediate improvement in deer sightings.

Why Hunters Choose Brushworks
We understand hunting property management
We're Hunters Too
We understand deer movement, wind patterns, and what makes a property hunt well. We don't just clear land — we help you hunt better.
Preserve Key Trees
We work around mature oaks, persimmons, and other mast producers. Mark what you want to save and we'll leave it standing.
Mulch Benefits Soil
The mulch we leave behind enriches soil for food plots, suppresses weeds, and provides organic matter as it breaks down.
Handle Steep Ridges
Southern Ohio hunting land is hilly. Our equipment handles slopes up to 55° — we can clear where others can't.
Off-Season Timing
We work around hunting seasons. Clear in late winter/spring so deer have all summer to acclimate before opener.
Best Time to Clear Hunting Land
Plan your property improvements around the hunting calendar
Late Winter / Early Spring
February through April is ideal for major clearing work:
- Deer have maximum time to adjust before fall
- Ground is typically firm (frozen or dry)
- Time to prep and plant spring food plots
- No leaves — better visibility for planning
Late Summer / Early Fall
August through September for last-minute prep:
- Clear for fall food plot plantings
- Cut shooting lanes before season
- Open access to new stand locations
- Quick improvements before opener
Questions Hunters Ask
Answers for hunting land managers
What size food plots can you clear?
We can clear food plots from a quarter acre up to several acres. Most hunters find 1/2 to 2 acre plots work best for deer. We'll work with you to determine the optimal size and location based on your property layout and hunting strategy.
When is the best time to clear for food plots?
Spring and early summer are ideal for clearing if you want to plant that fall. This gives the soil time to settle and allows you to do soil tests and amendments. However, we can clear year-round — winter clearing works great for spring planting.
Will the mulch left behind affect my food plot?
The mulch layer actually benefits food plots by suppressing weeds, retaining moisture, and adding organic matter as it breaks down. For immediate planting, we can adjust mulching depth. Most hunters find the mulch helps their plots establish better.
Can you clear around mature oaks and mast trees?
Absolutely. We regularly work around specimen trees, mature oaks, and other mast-producing trees that are valuable for wildlife. Just mark what you want to keep and we'll clear around them.
How wide should shooting lanes be?
Most bow hunters prefer shooting lanes 6-10 feet wide. For rifle hunters, wider lanes (15-20 feet) may be appropriate. We can cut lanes to your exact specifications based on your stand locations and typical shot distances.
